Summary

Sportsnet Now is a service offering live sporting events and on-demand sports content in Canada. I was responsible for designing the next iteration of web and TV experiences and defining the visual direction for the apps. I established the project structure and design system that would form the foundations of the project and future features.

The challenge

Migrating their current Sportsnet NOW services to our AXIS platform was the main objective of this project.

The AXIS platform and apps allow Rogers to manage content across different platforms and schedule alternate experiences for fans based on their preferences.

My core challenge was to define the visual direction of their new web and TV experiences, applying their branding to our existing AXIS apps. During the validation stage of the project, it was agreed that the apps would be designed within a dark context. We found that the core brand guidelines rogers provided were not entirely accessible when used in this context.

There were also a host of internal challenges to contend with throughout the project:

  1. The first major AXIS project to be kicked off within Figma
  2. The current design system was complex to manage and slow to update
  3. Introduced a further stream of work to integrate our platform into their existing native apps, which influenced how many platforms we had to consider.
